Gastronomy
- To have a nice meal is another excellent option in São Luís, where tasting the exotic Maranhão gastronomy is a fantastic experience.
- Fish and other seafood are the main ingredients of the local dishes. Prepared in large kettles, and in the form of stews and pies, the fish are generally served with cuxá, a dish made of dried shrimp, cassava flour, toasted sesame seeds and forkleaf hibiscus. The cuxá can also be served with rice according to a traditional rice with cuxá recipe.

São Luís do Maranhão is located 2 degrees beneath the Equatorial line, it is bathed by warm waters and it has sunshine all year long. The São Luis Island is in the centre of the long maranhense coast. São Luís was baptized as Saint Louis by the French.
In São Luis you can see an incredible mixture with a lot of ethnical, cultural influences, making it one of the most interesting cities in Brazil. Music is very present in São Luis, more specifically the reggae, some of the most known reggae bands in Brazil come from here, such as the Tribo de Jah.
