The São Tomé and Príncipe islands are situated about 300 km from the western African Coast. Near the south end of São Tomé we can find the Rolas Island, a true tropical paradise that is exactly over the Equatorial line. It has sun all year long, making it an ideal spot for beach holidays.

The São Tomé and Príncipe Islands did not have any habitants until 1470, when the Portuguese sailors João de Santarém and Pedro Escobar discovered them. There is a great architectonical heritage, being a perfect example of that the São Sebastião fortress, the Santa Sé Cathedral, located next to the Presidential Palace, the Historic Archive among other baroque buildings.

The São Tomé has a strong musical component, the African rhythms mix with the Portuguese music, creating an unique style. The "socopé" is the most popular dance; the joy of the music is in fact contagious.
